College campuses should be the breeding ground for continual political activism not just the outlet for temporary political fads. It is our responsibility as highly educated minorities, to give back to the community through education, active involvement and service.

So how can black student organizations consistently make a voice for themselves on campus? They can begin by reconstructing themselves. For instance, they should apply for things other than food-such as engaging speakers and multi-media. They should utilize all available resources for co-sponsorships and publicize events in a timely manner in order to secure a larger attendance.

Organizations should carefully choose executive board members and effectively prepare them for their positions. And they should also recruit first and second year students to create a stable cycle of involvement.

Applying these changes will perhaps cause black student organizations to rethink their purpose and role on USC's campus-thereby simultaneously improving and redefining other organizations such as BSA.
